A way of Life of the Fighting Rooster Owners and Transmission of a Local Wisdom at Ban Donsaensuk of RaiNoi in Mueang District, Ubon Ratchathani Province

Abstract

The research aimed to study the way of life of the fighting rooster
owners and the transmission of a local wisdom at Ban Dongsaensuk. Data
were gathered by an interview, observation, and a group discussion. The
research findings were as follows;The way of life at Ban Dongsaensuk began
with a local scholar who was a great grandfather of BoonmaSaisanoh. A local
wisdom in raising the fighting cocks was transmitted from generation to
generation.As a result, the majority of the village residents had learnedthe
practice. They had earned an extra income by raising the fighting cocks. The
residents who were engaged in raising the fighting cocks were able to
dififerentiate the types of roosters.A local wisdom were transmitted in two
ways : (1) the young were first taught from a simple step, they were allowed
to observe and learn from the first hand experience about the types of the
fighting roosters; (2) the adults were taught by a direct experience, for
examplethey were to learn how to take care of their roosters and what herbs
were good to the sick or injured roosters.
