Abstract
This research aimed to study the figures of speech used in the Top 25
songs of October, 2014 chart from www.songlyrics.com. 8 kinds of the figures
of speech were found namely simile, metaphor, hyperbole,
personification, understatement, metonymy, synecdoche and apostrophe.
Hyperbole was found most. Personification and Understatement were found
least. Figures of Speech made the songs more interesting and help the writers
to express their deep feelings.
