Developing Ability to Read Thai for Main Idea of Cambodian Students Using Reading for Main Idea Exercises

Abstract

               The purposes of this study were (1) to find the effectiveness of the reading for main idea exercises designed for the Cambodian students with an efficiency of 85/85, (2) to investigate the efficiency index of learning management pertaining to reading for main idea of the Cambodian students using the reading for main idea exercises, (3) to compare the ability to read for main idea of the Cambodian students using the reading for main idea exercises, and (4) to investigate their satisfaction about the reading for main idea exercises. Chosen by purposive sampling, the participants were 26 Cambodian students of section 3 under Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Education Projects for neighboring countries batch #9 studying at Mahasarakham University from May 31 to July 20, 2019.  The research tools included a learning achievement test pertaining to Thai reading for main idea, lesson plans, reading for main idea exercises, a posttest in the form of exercises and a satisfaction questionnaire. Statistics for data analysis included mean, standard deviation, t-test, and E.I.

The findings were as follow:

• The reading for main idea exercises for the Cambodian students had an efficiency of 89.15/85.40 which was higher than the specified efficiency of 85/85;


• The efficiency index of learning management about Thai reading for main idea through the use of spelling exercises for the Cambodian students was 0.7265 which equaled 72.65 percent;


• The ability to read for main idea of the Cambodian students after learning through the use of reading for main idea exercises was higher and statistically significant at .05 level;


• The mean of the participants’ satisfaction about the reading for main idea exercises was 4.60 with the standard deviation of 2.90 considered to be at the highest level.
