Presentation of a Local Identity through the Cloth Patterns at Ban Nonsawang in Tambon Nonsawang of Kutkhapun District, Ubon Ratchathani Province

Abstract

This article aims to study the presentation of local identity through textile pattern narratives in Ban Non Sawang, Non Sawang Subdistrict, Kut Khaopun District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The woven textile patterns in this community are diverse, rich in implied meanings, and reflect the community's identity. The study found three aspects:       1) local identity related to way of life, with 5 patterns: Hua Om Ban, Tum Hom, Ivy Gourd Flower, Fishhook, and Bullet Wood Flower; 2) local identity related to cultural landscape, with 3 patterns: Biting Turtle, Peacock, and Pleiades Star; and 3) local identity related to traditions, rituals, and beliefs, with 6 patterns: Castle Hall, Rice Ear, Naga Pair, Phaya Naga, Dragonfly, and Night Arch. These woven patterns are associated with local legends and clearly reflect the identity of the community.
