The construction of the ideology that appears in the palm-leaf book on Thao Dao Rueang

Abstract

              This academic article aims to examine the construction of ideology as reflected in the palm-leaf manuscript Thao Dao Rueang, employing the concept of ideology as its analytical framework. The study is based on a textual analysis of the Thao Dao Rueang palm-leaf manuscript version from Wat Ban Na Kham Yai, Na Kham Yai Subdistrict, Khuang Nai District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.

              The findings reveal that the palm-leaf manuscript Thao Dao Rueang, the version from Wat Ban Na Kham Yai, Na Kham Yai Subdistrict, Khuang Nai District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, constructs four major ideologies: 1) the construction of belief-based ideology; 2) the construction of monarchical ideology; 3) the construction of the ideology of virtuous womanhood under patriarchal thought; and 4) the construction of moral and ethical ideology. These four ideologies significantly influence the values and belief systems of Isan readers and listeners of the literature.”
