Abstract

This research article aims to analyze the role of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother as a cultural leader and the strategies employed in promoting Thai textiles from local wisdom to national and international identity. The study adopted a qualitative research approach through content analysis of documents and historical evidence. The findings revealed that Her Majesty carried out royal initiatives through 3 major strategies: (1) the economic strategy transformed citizens from “recipients of assistance” into “self-reliant artisans” through the establishment of the SUPPORT Foundation; (2) the identity strategy led to the creation and formal designation of the “Royal Thai Dress” as the national costume and official attire for Thai women; and (3) the international strategy employed cultural diplomacy and collaboration with world-renowned fashion designers to elevate Thai textiles into the realm of haute couture. These achievements reflect Her Majesty’s vision in utilizing soft power to integrate traditional wisdom with modernity, fostering pride in cultural roots while sustainably improving the quality of life of the Thai people.
