Abstract

This article aims to analyze children’s picture books presenting concepts related to gender, bodily rights, and gender diversity. The study examined eight picture books written by both Thai and international authors and translated into Thai. The books were selected based on content suitability for children aged 5–12 years. The findings revealed that children’s picture books introduce concepts related to body awareness, including private body parts, before leading to the understanding that one’s body is important and belongs to oneself. The books emphasize that children have the right to refuse unwanted physical contact. At the same time, the picture books present situations involving sexual harassment and provide guidance on avoidance, refusal, and seeking help from trusted adults. In addition, some picture books extend these concepts toward acceptance of sexual orientation, gender identity, and diverse family structures. These books help children understand differences, accept diversity, and learn about equality based on human dignity.
