A Research Competency of Ubon Ratchathani University

Abstract

      Competency of employees was competitive advantage of the organization. Even
though the principle mission of the university is teaching, research, and academic services
according to the specification, the body of research knowledge plays important roles in
teaching, and academic services. Therefore, the university must identify the research
competency of the organization in order that the competencies could be administered and
developed to further competitive advantage.
Document examination and in-depth interviewing of the research project’s head
were applied in this research. The research found that Ubon Ratchathani University research
project topics focused on development, nanotechnology, rubber, tourism mainly in Ubon
Ratchathani.
The overall of Ubon Ratchathani University research competencies included 1)
financing competencies: proposal meeting the grant requirements, field specialist, and
networking; 2) project management competencies: field specialist, team management,
knowledge and skills of financial management and; 3) competencies of publication or the
contributions and impact of the research: goal setting, and passion.
In terms of problems and obstacles, the main problems and obstacles were
researcher’s time, skills, ill-preparation to research, insufficient translators, monetary and
financial management systems, research management systems, and lack of sources of
academic journals.
To accomplish the university vision, a system of human resource management and
proactive human resource development should be improved, in particular talent retention,
research management support system, and budget management.
