This research focus on the interpretation of Piano Concerto no. 2 movement I
by Dmitri Shostakovich following the idea of Russian piano teachers which be gathered
in Chang’s treatise. Researcher classify the interpretation’s issue into 7 issues include
artistic concept, tone quality, dynamics, articulations, pedaling, fingering and rhythms.
The result shows the playing approach of this Piano Concerto no. 2 movement
I according the interpretation’s issue. Each issues represent the approach from Chang
and Russian piano teachers mainly emphasize in responding to the pianist’s desired
tone and also suitable for fine piano playing taste.
