CONSERVATION OF TEACHER PRAVEJ KUMUT’S SAWDUANG STYLE IN COLLEGE OF DRAMATIC ARTS

Abstract

  This article is written based on three main obtained data which are (1) the results of documentation research, (2) information from field trip studies, and (3) other related sources in order to present how the knowledge of Thai national music of Kru Pravej Kumut, who has been respected as a venerable person in Thai string instruments, has been inherited. Kru Pravej Kumut is also recognized as a national artist in performing arts (Thai traditional music) as well as a founder of Thai traditional music, music performance skills, and ethics of Thai musicians in the College of Dramatic Arts. The results of the study show that Kru Kru Pravej’ s Thai traditional music that has been inherited until the present time consists of 3 main perspectives including 1) experiences of being a co-performer with Kru Pravej Kumut 2) ethics of Thai musicians for Kru Pravej Kumut 3) individually inherited knowledge and ethical behaviors of a musician. According to Kru Pravej Kumut, there are three concepts regarding of Thai soprano fiddle. These concepts are (1) sitting position and holding position, (2) how to press the strings and how to use a bow, and (3) basic practices. As the author is inherited the knowledge from Kru Pravej Kumut, it is found that there is Conservation of Teacher Pravej Kumut’s Sawduang style in College of Dramatic Arts.
