Abstract

This creative research is conducted based on the consideration of the concept of learning to love and understand one’s own mind, which is regarded as protective armor and a medicine to maintain a stable mental state at all times. This results in a balanced and strong mind which is ready to face any problems in the current situation. One way to understand one’s own mind or realize the normal processes of life is to follow Buddhist guidelines in the manner of Contemplative Education by faith which is believed to be the anchor of the soul. The practice of prayer is a way to clarify the true nature of the mind and experience clearer. Thus, this creative research aims to study the concept, philosophy, and meditation practice of learning in Contemplative Education and to make an inspiration for creating abstract art.

According to findings of the study, it was found that the journey within the researcher's mental state was abstract. Consequently, the guidelines for the creation of a painting that the researcher would like to present was in the form of Abstract Art. In other words, the researcher wanted to create abstract art using Geometrical Abstract, in terms of both Op Art group and Hard-Edge group. The result of this creative abstract art was the discovery of a simple presentation technique which was a core concept of the abstract art. This technique was expressed through a visual language by creating meaningful symbolic shapes using the lines, colors, and shading techniques on spaces. This created a coherence which reflected the confusion occurring during the meditation. The technique was also regarded as a presentation method in relation to the creativity to naturally express symbolic and aesthetic arts of one’s own subconscious state.
