บทความชิ้นนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อศึกษานโยบายต่างประเทศของประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา และแนวคิดว่าด้วยความเป็นชายรูปแบบใหม่ในช่วงหลังเหตุการณ์ 9/11 ผ่านการสร้างบททดลองเสนอผ่านภาพยนตร์เรื่องไอ้มนุษย์แมงมุม ภาค 1 (ค.ศ. 2002) และภาค 2 (ค.ศ. 2004) ที่กำกับการแสดงโดย แซม ไรมี เครื่องมือหลักที่ใช้ในการศึกษาได้แก่ การศึกษาเนื้อหาภาพยนตร์ ร่วมกับการใช้เอกสารทุติยภูมิ อาทิ สื่อ นิตยสาร หรือข่าว ข้อมูลต่าง ๆ ถูกนำมาวิเคราะห์ด้วยวิธีการตีความ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า สื่อในตะวันตก เช่น นิตยสาร ข่าว ภาพยนตร์ หรือสิ่งพิมพ์ต่าง ๆ สามารถสะท้อนความหมาย ค่านิยม คุณค่า และอัตลักษณ์ของนโยบายต่างประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาและความเป็นชายรูปแบบใหม่ได้อย่างเป็นรูปธรรมดังที่ปรากฏให้เห็นจากภาพยนตร์เรื่องไอ้มนุษย์แมงมุมภาค 1 และภาค 2 เมื่อพิจารณาจากเนื้อหาและการนำเสนอของภาพยนตร์แล้ว การดำเนินเนื้อเรื่องสามารถนำมาทำความเข้าใจพลวัตของการเมืองโลก ตลอดจนสามารถประเมินแนวโน้มของสถานการณ์ทางการเมืองในช่วงหลังเหตุการณ์ 9/11 โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในประเทศอิรักได้อย่างเป็นระบบ นอกจากนี้เนื้อหาและการนำเสนอของภาพยนตร์ที่กล่าวถึงตัวเอกของเรื่องยังสามารถสะท้อนอัตลักษณ์และความเป็นตัวตนในลักษณะของความเป็นชายรูปแบบใหม่ทั้งในแง่ของลักษณะเชิงกายภาพและทัศนคติของพระเอก
