ชื่อเมืองในภูมิภาคคันโตของญี่ปุ่น: โครงสร้างคำและความหมาย : City Naming in Kanto of Japan: Structure and Meaning

Abstract

ภูมินามหรือชื่อเมืองของแต่ละประเทศล้วนแสดงความหมายที่สัมพันธ์กับลักษณะภูมิประเทศ บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่ออธิบายโครงสร้างและความหมายของชื่อเมืองในภูมิภาคคันโตที่ตั้งอยู่ทางทิศตะวันออกของประเทศญี่ปุ่น โดยข้อมูลในการศึกษานี้นำมาจากชื่อเมืองที่ปรากฏในฐานข้อมูลอิเล็กทรอนิกส์ที่อยู่ภายใต้การกำกับดูแลของกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ประเทศญี่ปุ่น จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 203 ชื่อเมือง วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้การจัดแบ่งโครงสร้างคำและความหมายของคำที่ปรากฏอยู่ในชื่อเมือง ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ชื่อเมืองในภูมิภาคคันโตมีโครงสร้างชื่อตั้งแต่ 1 คำ ถึง 4 คำ โดยมีชื่อเมืองที่มีโครงสร้างคำ จำนวน 2 คำ มากที่สุด คือ 149 ชื่อ รองลงมาคือชื่อเมืองที่มีโครงสร้าง 3 คำ จำนวน 36 ชื่อ ชื่อเมืองที่มีโครงสร้าง 4 คำ จำนวน 11 ชื่อ และชื่อเมืองที่มีโครงสร้าง 1 คำ มีเพียง 7 ชื่อ ผลการศึกษาสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงวัฒนธรรมทางภาษาในการตั้งชื่อสถานที่ที่เป็นชื่อเมืองของประเทศญี่ปุ่น นอกจากนี้ยังแสดงให้เห็นสภาพภูมิประเทศและการให้คุณค่าของสิ่งต่าง ๆผ่านการตั้งชื่อเมืองของญี่ปุ่นด้วย

Abstract

Ontology or the names ofcities in each country all represent the meanings that are related to geographic features. This article is aimed at describing the structures and meanings of the names of cities in the Kanto region, which is located on the eastern part of Japan. Data used in this study are the names of cities collected in electronic databases of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Names of a total of 203 cities are analyzed to determine the word structure and to study the meanings of words forming the city names. The result reveals that the names of cities in the Kanto region consist of one to four words. The largest number of the cities, 149 out of 203 cities studied, consists of two words, followed by those having three-word names (36 cities). There are 11 cities whose names are made up of two words and only seven cities have one-word names. The findings reflect linguistic culture of Japan in naming the country’s cities. Moreover, the study shows geographic features and value conferred on things through the names given to the cities of Japan.
