A Process of Becoming a Westerner’s Wives under Socio- Cultural Context in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province

บทคัดย่อ

         การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษา กระบวนการกลายเป็นเมียฝรั่งของหญิงไทยที่อาศัยอยู่ในพื้นที่อำเภอหาดใหญ่ จังหวัดสงขลาโดยใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ศึกษาจากกลุ่มผู้ให้ข้อมูลหลัก ได้แก่ กลุ่มเมียฝรั่ง และสามีฝรั่ง ผู้ให้ข้อมูลรอง คือ บุคคลรอบข้างเมียฝรั่ง เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย คือ แนวทางการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก การสังเกตแบบมีส่วนร่วมและการสังเกตแบบไม่มีส่วนร่วม

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า กระบวนการกลายเป็นเมียฝรั่งของหญิงไทยที่อาศัยอยู่ในพื้นที่อำเภอหาดใหญ่ จังหวัดสงขลา มีจุดเริ่มต้นมาจากเพื่อนหรือคนรู้จักชักนำ  เมียฝรั่งเบื่อหน่ายพฤติกรรมชายไทย ความเป็นอยู่ฝืดเคือง ปมด้อยในรูปร่างหน้าตา มีความชอบส่วนตัวและทำงานร่วมกัน มีการพัฒนาความสัมพันธ์ด้วยการพบปะพูดคุย ติดต่อสื่อสารผ่านระบบอินเตอร์เน็ตศึกษาดูใจกัน ระยะหนึ่ง จากนั้นเริ่มมีความสัมพันธ์ลึกซึ้ง ค่อยๆเรียนรู้ซึ่งกันและกัน จนถึงใช้ชีวิตคู่ร่วมกัน

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the process of becoming Westerners’ wives among Thai women living in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. The data of this qualitative study were collected from primary informants who were a group of Westerners’ wives and their husbands, and secondary informants who were people familiar with the Westerners’ wives. The instruments used in the study were a guideline for in-depth interviews, participatory observations and non-participatory observations.

The results of the study revealed that the process of becoming Westerner’s Wives among Thai women who lived in Hat Yai district, Songkhla provincestarted from being persuaded by a friend or an acquaintance. They were bored with Thai men’s behavior, a hard life, a sense of inferiority due to physical defects in their shape or face, their personal preference, working at the same place as the men, and knowing the men in person or through the Internet. After knowing each other for some time, they became intimate and eventually lived together.
