การ์ตูนเป็นสื่อที่สำคัญในวัฒนธรรมการดู (visual culture) และวัฒนธรรมมวลชน (pop culture) อีกทั้งเป็นทรัพยากรสารสนเทศที่ได้รับความนิยมจากเด็กและเยาวชน การ์ตูนประเภทนิยายภาพที่มีเนื้อหาดี จัดเป็นวรรณกรรมสมัยใหม่ประเภทหนึ่งและสามารถใช้ในการส่งเสริมการอ่านได้โดยดึงดูดผู้ใช้โดยเฉพาะวัยรุ่นเข้าห้องสมุด บทความนี้กล่าวถึงความสำคัญของการ์ตูนและนิยายภาพต่อการส่งเสริมการอ่าน  สาเหตุที่เด็กชอบอ่านการ์ตูน ประโยชน์ของการ์ตูน ความหมายและลักษณะของนิยายภาพ และนิยายภาพในห้องสมุด

Abstract

As a prominent visual culture and pop culture media, as well as children’s favorite reading material, quality graphic novel can serve as an efficient reading encouragement and library promotion tool.  The article reviews the importance of cartoon and graphic novel for reading encouragement, reason for cartoon reading, benefits of cartoon reading, definition and characters of graphic novel and graphic novel in the libraries.
