Woman’s Leadership Model and Roles Towards Thai Children and Youth Development: A Case Study of Lower Northern Region

Abstract

         The research on “Woman’s Leadership Model and Roles Towards Thai Children and Youth Development: A Case Study of Lower Northern Region” has objectives to: 1) study the context of woman’s leadership in Thailand, 2) study the roles of women in the development of children and youth, and 3) present a model of woman’s leadership in the development of children and youth. This is a qualitative research in which it studies document, articles and collects data through the in-depth interview method with 18 key-informants who are 5 scholars, 4 experts, 5 government officers at the Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development, and 4 social workers. The focus group is held with 3 scholars, 3 experts, 3 officers, and another 3 social workers. The data were then analyzed by a brainstorming and also verified by a triangulation method. The results showed that: 1) at the present, people enjoy an equal right as reflected in many roles taken by the women who are leaders in both public and private organizations. Because of social equality, men and women with equal rights and potential make them indifferent regarding the work performed. 2) Female leaders have roles in the cultivation of children and youth for the hope that they would prosper from a good crucible from the family as well as educational institutions. The female leaders should truly participate in politics and government which it a foundation of women’s leadership development. And, 3) The model for women’s leadership is DDSL that includes: (1) cleanliness, (2) orderliness, (3) politeness, (4) punctuality, and (5) concentration, (6) skill development, and (7) life-long learning.
