The exhibition design to promote tourism and to learn for Thai traditional medicine, Wat Phrachetuphon Wimonmangkhalaram Ratchaworamahawihan

Abstract

The objectives of the exhibition design for promoting tourism and learning of Thai traditional medicine tourism at Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Ratchaworamahawihan (Wat Pho) were to study health tourism knowledge such as identities and activities in Wat Pho and to design the exhibition booth for promoting Wat Pho. This study was a collaboration of 3 agencies, namely Srinakharinwirot University, Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine and Wat Pho or participatory action research (PAR) throughout the study period from primary and secondary data collection, tourist observations, data analysis as well as design and creation of exhibition booth and multimedia.The result of this study is the contemporary exhibition booth by transforming simulation concept and context of Wat Pho into a museum in form of exhibition. The highlight of this exhibition booth is Thai hermit exercises’ Khao Mor with the walls extended to both sides surrounding like a continuous ripple which is comparable to the dissemination of knowledge Wat Pho to international level. The composition of the wall which consist of drawings and photos, and texts describing the story act as media for guides which are monks at Wat Pho. These can be used to describe the overall picture of Wat Pho in just half an hour and used as instructional media to make more tourists know about Wat Pho and can be used repeatedly. In overall, it was found that the visitors of this exhibition booth were highly satisfied with the design and creation of Wat Pho exhibition booth.
