ย้อนปมประวัติศาสตร์ไฟใต้: ปัตตานีในความสัมพันธ์กับสยาม

Abstract

นับตั้งแต่เหตุการณ์ปล้นปืนในเดือนมกราคม พ.ศ. 2547 ความขัดแย้งในพื้นที่ 3 จังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้เริ่มก่อตัวขึ้นอีกครั้งและรุนแรงมากขึ้นเรื่อยๆ จากการศึกษาถึงสาเหตุของความขัดแย้งพบว่าประกอบด้วยหลายปัจจัย อาทิ ปัญหา ทางเอกลกัษณ์ (สำนึกทางประวัติศาสตร์และวัฒนธรรม) ปัญหาเศรษฐกิจและการศึกษาและปัญหาการต่อต้านรัฐของกลุ่มที่ต้องการแบ่งแยกดินแดน เป็นต้น ทั้งนี้ประวัติศาสตร์เป็นปัจจัยสําคัญประการหนึ่งของปัญหา 3 จังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้และมีความสําคัญยิ่งในกระบวนการสร้างความรู้ความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นการศึกษาประวัติศาสตร์จะทําให้รู้รากเหง้าของความขัดแย้งและมองเห็นว่าความแตกต่างทางความคิดในปัจจุบันนั้นเกิดจากความเข้าใจหรือตีความอดีตที่ต่างกัน

บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อต้องการศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ทางประวัติศาสตร์ระหว่างสยามกับอาณาจักรปัตตานีในฐานะที่เป็นปัจจัยสําคัญประการหนึ่งในการวิเคราะห์ปัญหาสาเหตุและการก่อตัวของความขัดแย้งการมองย้อนปมประวัติศาสตร์จะช่วยให้เรามองปัญหาด้วยความเข้าใจมากขึ้นว่าเหตุใดคนเหล่านั้นจึงมีความรู้สึกนึกคิดหรือมีพฤติกรรมเช่นนั้น อันจะนําไปสู่การวิเคราะห์และแก้ปัญหาอย่างรอบด้านมากขึ้น

Rethinking Thailand’s Southern Fire: The Relationship of Patani and Siam

Since an attack on an army base in Narathiwat province on 4th January 2004, the southern provinces of Thailand have been a cauldron of swirling discontent. Many studies have identified its root causes such as a resurgence of historical consciousness on the part of local Malay Muslims, unemployment, lack of educational opportunities, separatist movements, etc. Although the problems in Thailand’s three southernmost provinces are highly complicated as they are associated with many factors, this article will focus on the historical background as one of the main causes of the conflict. Understanding the history of the three provinces will help the decision makers to deeply consider the problems. However, we must accept that people with different backgrounds and perspectives, while looking at looking at the same situation, may see it differently.

The people in the three southernmost provinces strongly believe in their own history, which is deemed incompatible with the general history of Thailand. Thus, the article aims to gain better understanding of today’s problems by looking at the history of Pattani from the time it fell under the Kingdom of Siam.
