Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces Insurgency: From past to present
The problem of insurgency Thailand’s southern border provinces is a result of the failure of the government development policy to go along with the local communities and the modes of their living. Moreover, some government officials who work in those areas lack genuine understanding of the local people. In addition, with the southern border provinces being located far away from the central power, the areas suffer from lack of sufficient official attention. This state of affairs has led to the southern border provinces becoming unstable areas in terms of internal security and several kinds of illegal activities. The problem in the southern border provinces has continued for a long time without any real prospect for its solution. The failure to solve this problem is attributable to the fact that the areas still remain in a state of confusion, uncertainty, fear and mistrust that have accumulated for a long time. Sometimes the confusion the confusion exists on the part of both the government and people in the southern border provinces, which is not susceptible to solution.
