Managing at Homestay in the Area of Ban Pang Makhampom That Promote a Balancing Way of Life through Body, Mind and Spirit in Sansalee Sub-district, Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai

Abstract

Objectives of this research are the following: to expand knowledge of people about how to manage homestay businesses; to promote recreational activities in a health inspired homestay business that relates to a balancing way of life through body, mind, and spirit. The research results are from a participation of the researchers in the real environment of Ban Pang Makhampom. The tools used in this research include participation, observation, and interview through the interaction in activities provided by homestays. The target group used in this study was 10 homestay entrepreneurs and 70 community leaders. Totaling of 80 peoples, analyzed as a qualitative data resulted in the following content analysis.

The research results found were the following:

1. To stay thriving and grow in the homestay business, the homestay entrepreneurs must prepare their management in 4 areas 1) understanding the concepts and principles of homestay management in their area by offering a wellness tourism service, 2) recognizing the needs and behaviors of their tourists, 3) understandings the key elements of managing a homestay business. and 4) implementing strategies for managing stress and anxiety through recreational activities.

2. To promote the health inspired recreational activities, categorize activities into 3 groups: 1) active activities are do-it-your-self activities, 2) semi-active activities are activities that tourists work with the organizer, and 3) passive activities are activities that done by the others.
