An Analysing of the Errors in Writing Thai by Thai Majoring Chinese Students Language Institute and Global Affairs, Chiangrai Rajabhat University

Abstract

The​ purposes​ of​ this​ study​ were​ to​ An Analysing of the Errors​ in​ Writing​ Thai​ and​ identified​ causes​ of​ the​ errors​ in​ writing Thai​ by​ Chinese​ students​ majoring​ in​ Thai​ Language​ at The​ Language​ and​ Foreign​ Affairs​ Institue, Chiang​ Rai​ Rajabhat​ University. The​ research​ sample​ were​ 60 Chinese​ students​ who​ enrolled in​ the​ second​ semester, academic​ year​ 2021.

The​ research​ results​ were​ as​ follows​ : 

1. There​ were​ 3​ types​ of​ Thai​ Language​ usage​ errors, namely ​1) The​ errors​ of​ spelling Thai​ words, the wrong spelling​ of​ similar consonant shape​ was​ found​ most 2) the​ errors​ of​ function​al word, wrong​ of​ verb​ usage​ was​ found​ most​, and​ 3) the​ errors​ of​ sentence​ constructions, wrong​ of​ adding word​ to​ a​ sentence​ was​ found​ most​.


2. The causes​ of​ Thai​Language​ usage​ errors​ were​ classified into​ 7​ factors.​They​ were​ 1) lack of​Thai​ Language​ grammatical knowledge, 2) wrong​ pronunciation, 3) a​ similar​ity in​ Thai​ consonant​ alphabet, 4) lack​ of​comprehension of​ the​ word​ meaning, 5) have​ no​ notion of​ word​ usage, 6) have​ no​ notion​ of​ sentence​ usage, and​7) having​ limited knowledge​ of​ Thai​ vocabularies.
