The Analysis of the Song Titles of Teresa Teng

Abstract

The objective of this research is to study and analyze the grammatical structure of the words, phrases, proverbs, and sentences in Teresa Teng’s song titles. We also explore and classify the lexical categories of each word that is frequently found. As well as analyzing the characteristic of language usage of her songs. The result reveals that there are also idioms and proverbs besides words, phrases, and sentences. Amid all of song titles, phrases were used 366 times (55.58% of all samples). In terms of sentences, have been divided in two parts; 1) classified by usage, affirmative sentences were used 141 times (20.65% of all samples), 2) classified by structure, simple sentences were used 210 times (92.51% of all samples), and the sentence structures that were used the most is simple verbal predicate. As for the lexical categories of each word, noun was used the most, 496 times, secondly was verb, 185 times, prefix was the fewest amount, 1 time, and onomatopoeia was not found. In the matter of characteristic of language usage found that there are transliteration of foreign language, pun and reduplication. And moreover, full stop and question mark were not found in song titles apart from comma and
exclamation mark.
