The Antecedents and Consequence of Emotional Exhaustion of Hospital Pharmacists in Central Region

Abstract
Pharmacist is one of service provider with patients in the field of dispensing and recommending how to use the drug, which is considered to play an important role in the medical treatment. The objectives of this study were: 1) to study the effect of customer aggressive on emotional dissonant, emotional exhaustion, and well-being of pharmacists; 2) to study the effect of emotional dissonant on emotional exhaustion and well-being of pharmacists and 3) to study the effect of emotional exhaustion on well-being of pharmacists. This study is the quantitative research and the questionnaire was employed. The 380 participants were the pharmacists who worked for the government and private hospitals in central region in Thailand. The results showed
that sixed hypotheses were supported: 1) the customers aggressive had a negative effect on well-being of hospital pharmacists; 2) the customers aggressive had a positive effect on emotional exhaustion of hospital pharmacists; 3) the customers aggressive had a positive effect on emotional dissonant of hospital pharmacists; 4) the emotional dissonant has a positive effect on emotional exhaustion of hospital pharmacists; 5) the emotional dissonant has a negative effect on well-being of hospital pharmacists; and
6) the emotional exhaustion has a negative effect on well-being of hospital pharmacists. The result of the Structural Equation Model using AMOS analysis program indicated that the model fit well to the empirical data by the indicators of CMIN/df = 2.328, RMR = 0.049, GFI = 0.960, CFI = 0.914, SRMR = 0.000, RMSEA = 0.045. The implication of this study will be the direction for the human resource manager to improve the well-being and retain the pharmacists in the hospital.
