The Listening Exercise Constructed by Using Electronic Media for Chinese Students Learning Thai as A Second Language at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University

Abstract

This study aimed to construct the listening exercise by using electronic media for Chinese students learning Thai as a second language at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University based on the E₁/E₂ efficiency criteria at 80/80, to compare the students’ learning achievement of a development of Thai language listening skills, and to examine the students’ satisfaction towards the constructed listening exercise. The sample group was 18 third-year Chinese students learning Thai as a second language at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University in the semester 2/2019. The research instruments were 1) the listening exercise constructed by using electronic media 6 sets, 2) 6 lesson plans, 3) learning achievement test, and 4) 14-item questionnaires based on 5-rating scale format for examining the student’s satisfaction towards learning with listening exercise by using electronic media. The data was analyzed for mean (), percentage, standard deviation (S.D.) and the E₁/E₂ efficiency scores. The results showed that: 1. The effectiveness (E₁/E₂) of the listening exercise constructed by using electronic media for Chinese students who were the sample group had the value of 82.96/82.59 which was higher than the 80/80. 2. The results of comparing the score before and after learning with the listening exercise by using electronic media showed that the students’ learning achievement posttest was higher than the score before learning with the listening exercise by using electronic media. The t-test showed that the t-value was statistically significant at the .05. 3. The students’ satisfaction towards the listening exercise constructed by using electronic media showed the mean score at 4.79 which meant the students were satisfied to learn with the listening exercise at the highest level.
