OVERNMENT LOSS FROM LUXURY BAGS AND WATCHES SMUGGLING : CASE STUDY OF THAILAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS

Abstract

The study of WGovernment Loss from Luxury Bags and Watches Smuggling: Case Study of Thailand International Airports” researched international passengers arrived in 2017 in 4 Thailand international airports, namely Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. The study found that Thai government lost 335 million Baht from 890 smuggling cases or approximately 400 thousand Baht per case. Also found that passengers are intended to smuggle and found different techniques. Smuggling of luxury bags and watches by international passengers required low attempt and low chance of getting caught.

The study conducted 493 samples revealed that there is 25% chance of getting inspected. Though, Acknowledgement of rights, duties, and customs procedure is 36.3% at high level, where 63.7% at low and medium level.
