INTERPRETATION IN CRIMINAL LAW : A STUDY OF OFFENCES OF SNATCHING

Abstract
Offences of snatching is defined in the category of offences against property. It is often interpreted to protect the property only. This article brings the concept of legal virtue and the concept of foreign interpretation as a guideline in the analysis to lay the principle of interpretation into the same norm to solve the problem of lopsidedness of judgment and the judicial discretion. Results were that in addition to affecting ownership and occupancy, offences of snatching incites fear among property owners. Protecting potential victims from fear and danger of future offenses are key elements. These findings suggest that interpreting in offences of snatching should encompass not just property protection, but also protection of property owners.
