PROMOTING THE ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS IN THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THAILAND

Abstract

Non-Governmental Organizations play an important role in protecting human rights no less than States and Intergovernmental organizations and are a driving force for the protection of human rights.

            The study found that laws and regulations that affect the operation of Non-Governmental Organizations on the protection of human rights in Thailand are still out-of-date and do not have the characteristics to facilitate Non-Governmental Organizations at the private level as it should be. The author suggests that the recognition of Non-Governmental Organizations in national laws is needed to create a suitable environment for their operations and distinguish them from other types of legal entities. The author also proposes the guidelines for the amendment of relevant laws and regulations to be up-to-date and facilitate Non-Governmental Organizations action for the protection of human rights in Thailand as well as provide protection to Non-Governmental Organizations from any intimidation as well.
