LEGAL MEASURES FOR MANAGING TRANSPORT PACKAGING WASTE FROM ONLINE SHOPPING

Abstract

Technological development and higher internet availability have altered consumer’s behaviour. As a result, physical shopping dwindles and online shopping increases. When shipping products to customers, sellers need to cooperate with various shipping services and products need to be carefully packaged in order to protect and maintain their quality, ensuring a pristine condition upon arrival and maximum customer satisfaction. The ever-growing demand for online products might result in multiple problems concerning waste management, created by transport packaging of online-bought products. This might become a serious problem in Thailand in the near future.

Hence, this study aims to examine the legal principles regarding packages in the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany, where laws regarding packaging waste management are clearly and specifically stated. These provisions could be of great help and, once modified and applied, could help regulate transport packaging waste management and appropriately determine the responsibility of those involved in the online shopping industry in Thailand.
