Abstract

The study outcome indicates that the community participation was low in all cases. The highest score was given for the tourism development initiatives whereas the lowest was rated for the tourist’s attraction development plan. Particularly, the first three variables with highest score were the tourist’ attraction improvement to suit the community’s natural environment, sufficient area for waste disposal and management, and a variety of products for sale. The preparation of Kae Dam community for the wood bridge development was moderate for all variables of evaluation and the mean scores of each could be ranked in a descending order from value of tourist’s attraction, tourist’s attraction development and management, and natural tourism. The first three variables with highest mean scores comprised tourist’s attraction with well-preparation for tourism activities, large tourist’s attraction with high potential for preservation of essential species of animals and plants for ecology system, and tourist’s attraction with complete natural fertility.

Consequently, the guideline to develop the participation and the preparation of Kae Dam community was to form a group of the stakeholders from all sectors concerned with the community and educate them to understand and accept the tourism development process for Kae Dam Wood Bridge. They should also support the tourism activities organized at the community as well as preserving the natural resource around Kae Dam Lake. This mechanism requires strong participation form all related sectors, the people’s care for environment conservation and thoughtful consideration for the development process that preserve the local wisdom, especially the product development as tourist’s souvenir that should fairly provide income for all community members as well as attract more investments from business sectors for the sake of the community’s economy.
