The Development of Management Models for Sustainable Community Shops in Phana District, Amnat Charoen Province

Abstract

This research aims to develop management models for sustainable community shops in Phana District, Amnat Charoen Province. The samples were 677 people who were members of community shops, related or worked on developing community shops in rural areas in the northeast of Thailand. The instruments used for data collection were questionnaires, interviews and records of group conversations. The statistics used for data analysis were
percentage, average, standard deviation. LISREL was used for content analysis and confirmatory factor analysis.
The research found that knowledge of community shops management in Phana District was divided into four areas: personnel, operations of the group, community shop management and social capital of the group, which
contained support from partners, local people, regulations and the establishment
of a committee. The appropriate elements of the model consisted of five main components and 17 indicators: 1) supporting factors consisted of four indicators, including leadership, membership, support of external organizations and social capital; 2) organization administrative consisted of four indicators, including capital, product management, price management and service; 3) the models of community shops consisted of three indicators, including the models of
community shops, shop location and the awareness of the threat posed by free trade; 4) the community shop management consisted of four indicators, including the goal, community shop management, operation supervision and the participation of the members; 5) results/sustainability consisted of two indicators including
consequences to members and the effects on the community. Elements and
indicators of success in managing sustainable community shops were all at highlevel. All pairs of variables were correlated significantly. The elements of the developed models conformed to the empirical data. The results showed that the model can be put to practice and to manage sustainable community store.
