The Development Guidelines for Khaen Accompaniment in Khap Performing Arts in Lao PDR.

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) study the historical background of Khaen in accompaniment in Khab performing arts in Lao PDR., 2) to study the principle instructions for Khaen accompaniment in Khab performing arts in Lao PDR. and 3) to examine the development guidelines for Khaen accompaniment in Khab performing arts in Laos PDR. This qualitative research was conducted by collecting the data both documentary and field trip studies from observation, interview, and focus group conversation in Lao PDR.

The results of the research revealed that Khaen accompaniment in Khab performing art in Lao PDR is a performance developed from the way of life, value, belief and religion which is normally performed in merit making and traditional ceremonies and accompanied in Nang Sue Pook (traditional reading) until becoming Khab Nguem, Khab Chiang Kwang and Khab Sam Nuae. The principle instructions for Khaen accompaniment in Khab are similar to Ostinato of the western country.
