The Evolution of Lakhon Nai

Abstract

The Evolution of Lakhon Nai" is a study of the history of Lakhon Nai, or the plays of the royal court. The purpose is to study the development of Lakhon Nai from past to present. This research utilized the integrated research methodology and presented the results in a descriptive form.

            The research found that Nakorn Nai originated the training of the court ladies to be the performers in the royal ceremonies held in the palace compound.  It was also called the female drama.  In its course of evolution, it was associated with many types of performing arts  in terms of dancing styles,  performing methods based on the royal plays,  and even the term, ‘Lakorn’ which was derived from the plays performed outside the palace.  Also associated with Lakorn nai were  singing styles,  dancing styles,  performing theme and guidelines, dressing of main characters, weapon dancing, troop reviewing dance, Na Phat dance, battle scene, and fighting scene. Lakhon Nai has developed in accordance with the policy of the leader or with the approval of the monarch at that time
