ASEAN Way : The nation song of ASEAN Group Arranging for Military Band

Abstract

         The objectives of the study were to 1) arrange the song of the ASEAN Way for the Military band; 2) create creative works of art through the research process. The methods of conducting research, the concept of arranging music, and the concept of band formatting were consistent with the principles of Western music which came from the process of studying the context of the ASEAN countries and discovering a clear identity. This became a marching band pattern with a music design in the form of marsh music.

           The results of the research were (1) the arrangement of the ASEAN Way music for the marching band. The music style was consistent with the style of marsh music was designed by the researcher with using various techniques of creating a melody of western composition. The song structure consisted of 10 sections with the development of 3 main sections which the leading section and the connected section were composed by the researcher. The concept of creating a melody that was consistent with the main melody of the song and choir. These were focused on balancing the melody with 3 chords, linked to major and minor modes with the circle of fifth and musical color techniques. There were three concepts: 1) creating harmonious melodies, 2) creating melodies from the techniques of each instrument and, 3) proper distribution of sound to the instrument with the important technique; this was the Bass Subject, which is unique. The appropriate form the main melody was designed by the researcher; (2) creating creative works of art through the research process by the literature reviews and documents to investigate various contexts by scientific method resulted in the idea of creating works - it was found that the important national identity of ASEAN was linked to the military system. The broader presentations were to encourage students to access music by designing creative works for wind orchestral respectively.
