The Potentials Development of Community Guide in Ban Wan, Namkham Sub-District, Mueang Sisaket District, Sisaket Province.

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the current conditions of the community guides in
Ban Wan, Nam Kham Sub-district, Mueang Sisaket District, Sisaket Province, and 2) study the
needs for the potential development of community guides in Ban Wan, Nam Kham Subdistrict, Mueang Sisaket District, Sisaket Province. The target group of this qualitative research
was people in Ban Wan Community. The key - informants from the defined groups consisted
of homestay, wicker ware, weaving textile, traditional healers, dessert making, community
leaders, and Buddhist monks. The instrument used to collect data was an interview from
using focus group discussion. The data were analyzed by descriptive format. The research
findings were as follows:
1. The current conditions revealed that the community guides had low knowledge
and preparation of communicative English to present information and express tour guide
skills, including some problems in communication. Regarding academic knowledge, it was
found that they still haก little academic knowledge to apply in their work. They must have
practiced presentation skills about tourist places. For the guide performance aspect, it was
found that they had low information to pass on to the tourists. Therefore, they must acquire
knowledge of being good guides. Furthermore, for the problem-solving issue while guiding,
it was found that they still had low skills on problem-solving while guiding.
2. Regarding the needs for the potential development of community guides in Ban
Wan, it was found that most of the informants required to participate in the activity. They
required to have both on-site and off-site participatory workshop training on the topic of
English language and speaking skill for 15-20 participants to be trained for 3 days.
