Implication and Social Value of the Selection on Thai Auspicious Family Name (Thai Maha Mongkol) Provided by Department of Provincial Administration in 2020

Abstract

           This article examined the implications and social value of the people’s selection on 1,010 Thai auspicious family names from the Thai Auspicious Family Name (Thai Maha Mongkol) database that the Department of Provincial Administration provided for an online reservation in 2020.

​          The outcome noted that the Thai auspicious family names provided by the Department of Provincial Administration were mainly contained with 14 implications including: 1) Prosperity (most often found); 2) Characteristics; 3) Bloodline and Family Members; 4) Property, Wealth, and Fertility; 5) Happiness and Love; 6) Belief and Religion; 7) Shape and Organs; 8) Specific Group of People; 9) Surrounding Nature; 10) Places; 11) Human’s Manner; 12) Orders and Numbers; 13 Abstract; 14) and Attributes and Conditions respectively. In the meantime, those family names also represented 4 types of social values including: 1) Value in Desires of Human Life (the most often mentioned); 2) Value in Human and Family; 2) Value in Attributes and Characteristics; and 4) Value in Environment respectively.
