Guidelines for Developing Skills in Playing Western Musical Instruments for Further Study in Music of Higher Education Applicants Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the conditions, problems, and
guidelines for developing the skills in playing western musical instruments of the ones who
desired to study music at a higher education level. The samples were 40 high school
students who wanted to study music at Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University in the
academic year 2021. The research instruments were a survey form, a skill and musical
notation practice form, an observation form, and a satisfaction assessment form. The
research findings were as follows.
1. Considering the states and problems related to the western musical instruments,
it was found that parents supported their children to learn music, to choose what they
wanted to learn according to their aptitudes. The students under study wanted the skill
practices on the western music, listening skills and basic universal note skills.
2. Concerning the guidelines for the musical skill development, it was found that
there were three stages: preparation, practice methods, and pre-test preparation. With the
developed model used, it was possible to develop more skills in the western musical
instruments.
