DESIGN FOR THE ELDERLY AS THE AGING SOCIETY MANAGEMENT IN THAILAND

In 2021, Thailand will become a full-fledged aging society. Therefore, a good management system is regarded as an indicator of the capability in dealing with the senior citizen without hindering the country economic development as well as the development in other sections. This article aims to analyze Thai aging society management system in relation to the criteria from the Global AgeWatch Index 2015 in the following dimensions: 1) Social and environmental conditions 2) Income and standard of living conditions 3) State of health and 4) Capability and potential of the elderly. The analysis is then compared with Japan. The results of the study show that the design guidelines for aging society that are widely used in Thailand are service design, universal design and product design for the elderly.
