RELIGIOUS PLACES OF THE COMMUNITY ALONG DAMNOENSADUAK CANAL: PRELIMINARY SURVEY

Abstract

This article aims to present a survey of religious sites in the communities on the banks of Damnoen Saduak Canal and to recommend religious preservation practices in the communities. The survey was conducted with Google satellite map and data collection onsite. It is found in the initial data survey that there are 44 temples in total, which can be categorized into 3 main groups which are 28 shrines / vegetarian halls, 14 Buddhist temples / chapels, and 2 Roman Catholic churches. It is recommended that relevant local authorities and civil society organizations should participate in the management by creating a conservation plan and establish a conservation fund. The research studies about the history of architecture, arts, important artifacts, traditions related to religious places should also be conducted to provide knowledge and understanding among local communities and those who are interested.
