THE STUDY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF TEACHING WISDOM IN DANCE TEACHERS

Abstract

This research article aims to investigate the roles and duties of teachers according to the national development plan of the 20-year national strategy. The study emphasizes analyzing the three dimensions stated in the national strategy which are (1) the development and empowerment of human resources, (2) the study of the existing roles and duties of dance teachers in schools, and (3) guidelines for developing Thai dance teachers in schools in order to find approaches for developing teaching of dance teachers in accordance with the 20-year national strategy. The study utilized document research collecting data from 12 related literatures and the interviews with dance teachers in 6 schools in 4 regions of Thailand. The results of the study revealed that the current teacher development approach focuses on the development of specialized practical skills rather than the development of teaching method skills. This means the teacher development approach is inconsistent with the 20-year national strategy that emphasizes on knowledge transfer to allow the students to learn most effectively. In addition, research in the development of dance teachers is still understudied, causing the lack of a model for developing dance teachers in many areas. According to the findings of the study, the teacher training programs that emphasize teaching and learning management as well as learner-centered teaching methods should be provided to performing art teachers. These training programs can enhance the knowledge and teaching performance of these teachers in accordance with the National Education Act of 2542.
