DANCE PATTERNS: THE CREATION OF A DANCE FROM IMPERFECTIONS IN THE PROCESS OF SELECTING NATIONAL DANCE ARTISTS

Abstract

This research paper is part of the doctoral thesis entitled “The Creation of Dance from Imperfections in the Selection Process of National Dance Artists” with the purpose to find the patterns of dance in the dance creation from imperfection in the selection process of national dance artists. The qualitative research and creative research were applied as the research design focusing on the benchmark and qualifications which were not stated in the criteria for selecting national artists. The researcher analyzed the data obtained from document research, surveys, interviews, media, field surveys, artist benchmark, and researcher’s experience to find the patterns of dance.

          Based on the results of the study, the researcher divided the performance into 7 acts which are Act 1 Philosophy; using the dance movement to express the delineation, Act 2 Ethic; creating the dance based on the techniques of Mime, Act 3 Versatile; using everyday movement, Act 4 Leader and Pioneer, using the techniques of classical ballet, Act 5 Passion; using the improvisation with performing props (a trophy), Act 6 Passing the Knowledge; using the movement of Jazz dance, and Act 7 Taste; using everyday movement. The results of the study perfectly corresponded with the stated objectives.
