STYLES OF DANCE IN CHOREOGRAPHY FROM THE CRITICISM OF BEING A DANCE ARTIST OF NARAPHONG CHARASSRI

Abstract

This research article is a part of thesis entitled “Styles of Dance in Choreography from the Criticism of Being a Dance Artist of Naraphong Charassri” with the aims to discover the styles and patterns of dance. The utilization of both qualitative research and constructive research methodology was conducted using research instruments including documentary research, interviews, media, field surveys, seminars, artist benchmark and ethnography. The researcher emphasized the constructive criticisms on the qualification of being a dance artist of Naraphong Charassri given by international critics and people related to Naraphong Charassri in Thailand. The researcher studied and analyzed the data obtained from newspapers, magazines, and interviews to find the patterns of dance. The findings revealed that the patterns of performance can be divided into six acts, namely Act 1 Mystique; using minimalistic movement, Act 2 Passion; using daily and free spirit movement (Everyday movement and Free Spirit), Act 3 Peculiar; using movement against the concept and the theory of classic dance, Act 4 East and West; using a mixture of eastern and western dance, Act 5 Body; using part of the body in movement and Act 6 Virtue; using a movement of meditation and Mudra, a finger language of Indian dance. The results of the study perfectly aligned with the indicated objectives.
