THE THAI DANCING ART TEACHING MODEL OF SUWANNEE CHALANUKROA, THAI NATIONAL ARTIST

Abstract

The Thai Dancing Art teaching model of Prof. Suwannee Chalanukroa, Thai National Artist in Dance Drama in 1990 was the inspiration of this research to develop Thai Dancing Art education. The study aimed at examining the Thai Dancing Art teaching model of Prof. Suwannee Chalanukroa and applying the teaching methods of Prof. Suwannee Chalanukroa to develop a more efficient teaching model for Thai Dancing Art education. The study found that the teaching model included 6 steps which were (1) physical preparation, (2) making character analysis and understanding of roles, (3) dancing movement teaching, (4) practicing and repeating dancing movements, (5) teaching dancing styles to create the elegant movement and (6) adjusting the dancing movements.

Base on the results of the application of the teaching model to the 2 classrooms of Thai Classical Dance Education’s senior students majoring in Dancing and Music, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, the 37 students who had been learning with this teaching model in the 2^nd Semester, academic year 2019, were able to understand dancing principle, dancing movements, tradition in performance, dancing movement memorization as well as being able to sing the songs melodiously. Moreover, the students were able to improve their body figures, their dancing movements, and their use of emotion in the performance.
