DOCTORAL CREATIVE RESEARCH ON MUSIC COMPOSITION: THE HEROINE ‘YAMO’ FOR WIND SYMPHONY

Abstract

The doctoral creative research on music composition: The Heroine ‘YA MO’ for Wind Symphony is a descriptive music composition to honor the Siamese heroine who protected her beloved homeland ‘Korat’ from an invasion of the enemy. Her bravery, loyalty and patriotism have been regarded as national symbolic and pride not for Korat people but the entire kingdom. The composition expresses the virtues and stories from the past. The unique rhythm of Korat folk songs is blended with western music along with improvising techniques and the modification of the melody of 1) Korat folk dance 2) Korat Lullaby and 3) Korat love song. Additionally, heterophony, homophony, polyphony, sequence canonique, and stratification have been utilized to shape the characteristic melisma and stylistic melodies to be a well-crafted vertical and horizontal textures. Likewise, the aesthetic sensation and sound legacy of the heroic history are the cultural and communicating success of the composition. The composition comprises 3 spectacular movements which are Home, Freedom and Korat’s celebration. It is required 40 minutes of the performing duration by the full-scale Wind Symphony.
