Praekasa Landfill: Legal Measures on Landfill Control of Local Administration Organization and the Remedies to People Affected by Landfill Fire, Samutprakan Province

Abstract

This article is a qualitative study, which collecting data from documents and interviewing of the representatives of the people affected from the fire on Praekasa landfill. The objective of the research was to study legal measures on landfill control by local organizations and remedies to people affected by the fire on Praekasa landfill, Samutprakan Province on 16-22 March 2014. The incident was violent and had a massive effect on people living in the area. The government had to declare a state of emergency. Meanwhile, anti Praekasa landfill network group had reflected problems on this incident to make the awareness of governmental and private sectors, including those of public in order to restore the environment around the landfill. The result of the study found that there should be provisions of laws to effectively control by local government over landfills. The study of the remedies to the people whom affected by the incident found that they were remedied only with money. The most important things that they needed, is the restoring on an environmental area around the landfill.
