Abstract
The research aimed to study the local community potential to promote cultural tourism in Tambon Plakhao, Mueang district of Amnat Charoen and to examine the guidelines for the local community development for the same purpose. The samples were 346 locals aged over 18 who resided in Tambon Plakhao of Mueang district. The sample size was determined by a simple random sampling. The target groups were 5 representatives of the community, 5 officials/ staff, 4 village heads or Tambon chiefs and 6 locals. The research instrument was a questionnaire. Statistics used in data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation and content analysis. The research findings were as follows. The local community potential in Tambon Plakhao in Mueang district was overall at a high level. Given individual aspects, it was found that the aspect with a maximum value was found in tourism management, the communal promotion and economic development for tourism. Secondary was the potential to accommodate tourism; tourist sites were readily accessible by vehicles; there was also potential to attract the would-be tourists to the sites; the sites had interesting history. As regards the guidelines for the local community potential development, there should be OTOP products which were interesting and attractive to tourists, local culture and traditions should be preserved. On the potential to accommodate tourism, there should be pleasant, and interesting adequate accommodation. State agencies should provide enough support and knowledge to local entrepreneurs. On the potential concerning the tourism management, there should be a working committee to coordinate and work with government agencies.
