Abstract

          The quantitative research intends to study the roles of the licensed security officers in helping the police officers to prevent the crime according to law. The research also aims to study the security guards’ personal factors and environmental factors effecting on the role. The 200 licensed security guards answered the questionnaires about their roles and the personal factors of being the licensed security guards. The data were analyzed using percentage, means standard deviation and t-test.

          The result found that: 1) in the operation, the licensed security guards occupied with main three duties which were: 1. to assist the police officers in arresting the offenders under the Criminal Code; 2. to protect and ensure the safety in life, body and property of the citizen and 3. to immediately report the crimes and offences to the administrative official or to the local police officers when there was a commission of offences or there was a reasonable ground to believe that there would be a crime happening within the responsible area; 2) the personal factors effecting on being the licensed security guards included, the person needed to be male, aged between 21-25 years old, needed to be trained under the security guard program, and needed to have the working experience for more than 5 years. They also needed to take numerous roles in helping the police officers in preventing the crimes. For the environment factors, they needed to do the operation manuals, supervised and inspected the other security guards who were on duties, and provided the communication equipment to communicate with the operation center during working. The later duty effects directly to the security guards’ role on helping the police officers to prevent the crimes.
