Survey and Classification of Contemporary Ceramic in Thailand from 1985 to 2016
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to understand contemporary ceramic in Thailand in general. It started with a survey of related literature on contemporary ceramic in other countries as a benchmark for “contemporary” ceramic artworks. It has chosen to study artists who exhibit on a regular basis. The survey started from 1985 which was the first year of the National Ceramic Exhibition. Research procedures are documentary studies of exhibition catalogs, competition catalogs, reviews of exhibition, including interviews and collecting images of artworks from the artists themselves. The study also explores other factors such as the beginning of ceramics curriculums in institutions of higher education, and roles of ceramic museums, art gallery, artist association etc. The findings reveals a broad view of contemporary ceramic in Thailand, and can be used as a reference to the contemporary ceramic studies in the future.
