The Development of English Reading Comprehension through Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Technique for Mathayomsuksa I Students

Abstract

             The objectives of the research article were to 1) to develop English reading comprehension through cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) technique based on the efficiency criteria of 80/80, 2) to compare the students’ English reading comprehension achievement before and after learning through the CIRC technique, 3) to investigate the students’ satisfaction towards the CIRC technique. The sample consisted of 30 students studying in Mathayom Suksa 1 at Banlampeak School, under the Office of Nakronratchasima Primary Educational Service Area 3, gained by cluster sampling. The instruments were six learning kits through the CIRC technique, an achievement test of English reading comprehension with 40 items, and a satisfaction questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test (dependent sample). Results of research have found the following findings: 1) The developed CIRC learning kits had efficiency values of 81.86/81.33, which met the determined criteria of 80/80. 2) The students’ English reading comprehension achievement after learning through the CIRC technique was significantly higher than that before learning at the level of .01. 3) The students’ satisfaction towards the CIRC learning activities was at a higher level.
