A Survey of Citizen Access to Information of Local Administrative Organizations in KhonKaen Province

Abstract

          Citizen access to government information is key to effective application of good governance in the public sector. The purposes of the current research were to explore channels which citizen use to access information provided by local administrative organizations in KhonKaen Province and to examine the relationship between their localities and their access channels. Data were collected by a questionnaire survey of 400 people living in KhonKaen Municipality, Sila Municipality, Phra Lap Municipality, and Don Han Sub-district Administrative Organization.

          Findings show that citizens have a variety of channels for accessing local administrative organizations’ information.  Conventional channels include sign boards, community broadcast towers, and community leaders.  Modern channels include official websites, Facebook fan pages, and the Line application.  Results of the statistical relationship analysis show that living in different places is related to different information access channels.  Therefore, local administrative organizations should give priority in exposing the information to the public, in updating the crucial present information, and in having a variety of information accessing channels to facilitate public.
