“YOU ARE WHO YOU ASSOCIATE WITH.” AUSPICIOUS LIFE FROM KULARB RAI NAM OF SRIFAH LADAWAN

Abstract

          The objectives of this research article were to analysis of characters in the novel Kularb rai nam of Srifah Ladawan. The researcher adopts Somdee Jindapisathan’s concept of auspicious Life “You are who you associate with.” and Eric Fromm's basic human needs. The objective was to study of The character picks a wise man as his companion in order to live a delightful and harmonious life because his mindsets enable him to overcome life difficulties. This study aims to analyses the motivations that cause the character to behave like a wise man.

         The research result were found that: According to the novel, there are six characteristics of a wise man: advises his companions to perform appropriate tasks; minds his own duties; is a good listener; possesses life disciplines; conforms to the rules and regulations; and, possesses proper etiquettes. Second, there are five motivations that motivate the character to possess qualities of a wise man: a desire to initiate relationships; a desire to become creative; a desire to express his own sense of uniqueness; a desire to rely on a virtuous individual and find jolly and peace in life.
